2019 Board Officers

Laura Bean, President   After raising their two children, Laura and her husband retired from careers in the Midwest and moved to Montana. They own an orchard in Bigfork where they enjoy sharing their bounty with others. Laura has a passion for libraries and feels strongly that libraries strengthen our community and help create life-long learners

Erica Wirtala, Vice President   A land use planner by profession, Erica enjoys working in the community on affordable housing and community land trust projects as part of her Advocacy position with the Association of Realtors. She has two teenagers and a husband that keep her hopping, but she’s never too busy to stop by the library to see what’s new She’s frequently found with her nose in a book and a dog by her side!

MB Bertram, Treasurer   Originally from Mississippi, MB relocated to the Flathead Valley in 2006 with her husband, a Kalispell native. Since then she has enjoyed a career at Glacier Bank, and is part of the Accounting team. The public library is one of the first spots she checks out when moving to a new town. She was pleasantly surprised to find such a vibrant library in Kalispell, and joined the Board in 2017 in order to contribute to its’ continued growth and success.

MB Bertram, Treasurer

Originally from Mississippi, MB relocated to the Flathead Valley in 2006 with her husband, a Kalispell native. Since then she has enjoyed a career at Glacier Bank, and is part of the Accounting team. Valerie Kurth, Secretary   Valerie spent more than 10 years in academic teaching and research before moving to the Flathead Valley in 2014 to work for the conservation district. She has always been an avid reader and user of public libraries, and she enthusiastically joined the Foundation Board in 2018 because she wanted to support the community.

Connie Behe, Library Director   Connie Behe was promoted to Library Director in 2018 after nearly a decade of leadership roles at ImagineIF Libraries. A lifelong lover of information, ideas, and people, Connie advocates for social justice and human rights through library services.

Charlotte Housel, Executive Director   After moving to the Flathead Valley from Brooklyn with her husband Jonathan, a Bigfork native, Charlotte joined the Foundation in 2017, bringing a professional background in strategy and advertising. An avid reader, libraries have always felt like places of refuge for her. She is excited to raise her son, Arthur, in a place where he has access to both natural beauty and rich cultural institutions like ImagineIF.
